Colors and Light

Colors and Light

(This is a test post to understand Ghost - don't care about the text)

Daylight gives us the chance to see and understand the meaning of our environment. Colors, textures and structures gave our ancestors the chance to understand how and what to hunt, collect and to build tools.

The only light source during night was fire. Fire was dangerous and had to be maintained. It may was never intented to extend the time to hunt or collect things.
Our Eyes are still far from great to see colors and textures in the dark so it was never clear how save something in the twilight is.

At this early stage of mankind, fire helped to process food, build tools or surprisingly find new processes to build new materials or ways to process tools.

Modern times

Over a century ago, artificial electric lighting started to revolutionize our life. A save and stable light source at nighttime, extending the time we can spend on living and working.

It gave companies a chance to grow and expand, since the working hours were much better to calculate.
Designers were able to develop more complex furniture, decorations and ornaments. It simply made more sense to use more colorful fabrics with deeper textures since these objects became the center of a bulding. Art deco meant to be a statement from the outside to the inside - everything was accessible, even at night time.
Later this also changed the way architects were designing and building houses. It changed the way to design rooms.

There is always a catch

Evolution formed humans to survive daytime and seek protection and sleep at night.
Human perception formed during the time with only daylight and it is still not ready to gives our brain an idea what happens when seeing things with artifical light.

This has maybe to do with the limitations of artificial light, which is the missing spectral bandwidth or the very low intensity compared to daylight or it simply has has to do with how our brain is tricking us to see things earlier - speed counted a lot during evolution and our brain is simply guessing what our eyes are still seeing incomplete.Very similar to color.

Color and light is not complicate .. it's just something to agree that it is like it is.
Lets have a look on these images. They are not wrong or right. They just tells a story of the light which was used.

Red colors and a warmer light are working perfectly together: It just like they are swinging to the same music. Blue colors and cooler light do the same and understanding that is just like shacking to the light.

Let's start with the following image.
The Blue looks right, but there is something stange on the right. The Right side is using a warm light, which then causes a shift of colors on the wall.

Blue Color and cool light

The Blue color of the wall doesn't match with the warm color of the spots on the right.
Let's change only the color of the wall to red. The right side is looking fine, but the rest is odd and not a deep red as it should be..

Red color and cool light

To fix this let's start with warm lightcolor on wall in the back. Nice.
You also see that it looks now much nicer. On the right is a sculpture in gold. The warm light is helping ths as well.
On the left side the same sculpture in silver is lighten with cool lightcolor, which loos good. the tradeoff is a strange color on the left wall.

Red color and warm light

Turning back to a blue wall with all the warm light is now telling the story of colors and light again. Color and light hase to be used together and with respect to what you want to show.
